•About Liberation Commemoration•
The year 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of one of the most significant milestones in world history – V-J Day: the end of World War II on September 2, 1945.. It also coincides with the anniversary of another finale – Hitler’s war against the Jews. Yiddishkayt Initiative (YI) plans to present a commemorative as well as entertaining program to showcase the rich artistic life that existed in one of the last and most culturally significant camps to be liberated, promote public awareness of other events preceding V-J Day as well as honor the US soldiers who gallantly risked their lives fighting these two concurrent wars.
Liberation Commemoration events commemorating the 75th anniversary of V-J Day as well as the liberation of the concentration camps will be held throughout the week of September 7-13, 2020, as part of the International VIRTUAL YI Love YiddishFest. It will consist of theatrical performances, talkbacks, lectures, art and photography exhibits.
